Career Readiness Skill Training Programs
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
This RI Department of Health approved course includes 100 hours of live classroom lecture and hands-on lab sessions as well as clinical training in a nursing facility (40 hours). Students learn to provide basic routine nursing related services to individuals in various healthcare settings.
Certified Medication Technician (CMT) (formerly MedTech)
Our RI Department of Health approved course in partnership with the University of Rhode Island is for active CNAs looking for additional training and licensing in the administration of medications. Students learn how to track and allocate dosages, discover how to prevent infection as part of proper administration of medication to patients, and learn about specific medications and their side effects.
CPR: Heartsaver® CPR/AED
American Heart Association’s video-based, instructor-led course in adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and how to relieve choking in adults, children and infants. For anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider (Not currently offered)
This class is for health care providers. Participants learn to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED.
Food Service & Sanitation (Not currently offered)
Full Certification: Our state approved 20 hour ServSafe course is a nationally recognized food safety certification program. You will learn about food safety practices and proper food handling techniques in an individualized, blended learning environment. You will also review in preparation for the state required test.
Re-Certification: Our state approved six hour ServSafe course provides the up-to-date techniques for food safety and proper food handling required every three years in Rhode Island.
Medical Records/Health Information Technology Training (Not currently offered)
This course covers the operations of a health claims specialist. Students learn how to use the computer program for scheduling appointments, billing and coding, insurance claims, and data management.
Teacher Assistant Training
AIALC is a R.I. Department of Education approved training site for anyone interested in being employed as a full-time, part-time or substitute teacher assistant. Our program consists of 45 classroom hours (6 weeks) and includes Northstar Digital Literacy Certificates. Instruction is provided by a multidisciplinary team, and the topics include: ParaPro Testing requirements, school policy & procedure, communication skills, instructional technology, supporting students with learning differences, providing behavioral and instructional support, school & workplace, safety, human development, soft skills, career readiness, and diversity.
