Position: Next Step Advisory – Aquidneck Island Adult Education Program
Supervises: N/A
Report To: AIALC Program Director
Duty Hours: Full-time - flex schedule based on program and student needs.
Basic Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist students in the development, of Individual Employment Plans to include support services and career counseling, navigation, placement and retention support.

Assist in administering student In-take process including diagnostic tests and informal tests for the screening of students and placement of students.

Assist in administering student assessments as prescribed by RIDE and the NRS
-
Maintains complete records for each student. These records include diagnostic results, profiles, progress reports, attendance and other program requirements.

Conduct outreach and recruitment of adult learners using a variety of outreach formats.

Develop and implement an employer engagement plan.
-
Organize employer-led workshops and trainings that encompass employer feedback and needs.
-
Conduct follow-up services with AIALC students on a regular and on-going basis to foster student success.

Assist in organizing job fairs, student screenings, participate in job fairs, trade shows and other appreciate community events.

Provide direct instruction as assigned.

Meet regularly with AIALC Pathways Case Manager, instructors regarding student progress.
-
Participates in an individual professional development plan.

Performs all other such duties deem appropriate by supervisor(s).

Attends staff meetings as scheduled.

Adhere to all policies as approved by NCS’ Board of Directors.

Work in collaboration and outreach with community agencies for the betterment of the Newport Community School’s programming.

Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications are required.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in career counseling, Human Services or related field.

Experience teaching and counseling adult students.
-
Knowledge of CASAS testing and assessment procedures required by RIDE and the NRS.
-
Experience working with adults in student orientation and goals setting procedures.
-
Knowledge of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and Rhode Island State Plan.
-
Experience in working with adult students within the area of work readiness and career planning.
-
Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities above as evidenced by course work, educational experience, adult education involvement, and/or professional activities, and the interview process.

Newport Community School (NCS) is a full-service community school non-profit organization, providing out-of-school time for middle and high school students along with comprehensive family support, social emotional student services/programming, and adult education programs. NCS was founded in 2001 and has had a track record of success and has a loyal following working in partnership with our local school district and a variety of community partners.
The Newport Community School’s Adult Education program, the Aquidneck Island Adult Learning Center provides a full menu of literacy, adult education and vocational training to adults and out-of-school youth at times and in places convenient to the learner. These services include assessment, literacy, workplace literacy, ESL, high school completion and vocational training and counseling based upon the findings or recent research and the best practices recommended by the National Literacy Resource Center.
