Community Cookery

Our Story

Community Cookery is a full-service retail café anchored by a cause!

Located at 18 Market Square in Newport (inside Seamen’s Church Institute) the café serves Grab and Go breakfast and lunch to our local

community and the more 2.1 million visitors who travel to our city each year.

Community Cookery is owned and operated by the Newport Community School, a non-

profit organization, whose mission is to provide educational opportunities to foster increased

academic success and self-sufficiency among adult learners across our community.

The Community Cookery is not just a café, it is a training site offering adult learners the

opportunity to gain real world experience under the guidance of our Café Manager and staff.

During the Community Cookery business hours, adult learners actively engage in hands-on café

operational activities, which assist them in achieving their workforce training goals important to

pursue a career in the hospitality industry either with the Community Cookery or with one of our

many industry partners operating within our local community. 100% of the proceeds from your

purchase support the ongoing operations of the Community Cookery and training of our students.
